Adventure Coordinators A-list: Argentina

April 13, 2016

As part of our commitment to giving you unbiased adventure travel advice, here is our A-list of the best adventure tours in Argentina.

Few countries in the world can claim subtropical forests and glaciers, huge waterfalls and deserts, swampy lowlands and high mountains, wide-open space and bustling cities, penguins and flamingos. Yet Argentina has all that and more. Thundering Iguazú Falls, the calving glacier at Perito Moreno and the mountains of Patagonia are the most famous draw cards. Then there are football, tango, great steaks and phenomenal wines. Part Latin American and part European, this is one country you do not want to miss.

Best overall sightseeing trip

The very best all-round sightseeing trip is World Expeditions' Patagonia Parks & Wildlife.  It is almost three weeks long and because of the comfort level, comes at a high price.  If you want to spend less and stay a little shorter, G-Adventures / National Geographic's Discover Patagonia is another great tour.

Best cycling trip

Discover the beauty of the Andean Lake District on two wheels on Exodus' Cycling the Lake District of Chile & Argentina

Best hiking trip

For the best hiking trip it is a toss-up between G-Adventures' Patagonia Dreaming and Intrepid's Patagonia Wilderness.  If you are looking for a shorter trip, Exodus' Patagonian Highlights is our runner-up.

Best trekking trip

The best trekking trip is World Expedition's Paine & Fitzroy Trek, offering stunning trekking in two amazing mountain ranges.  The shorter Exodus Classic Patagonian Treks is runner up.  See also the "Best of the beaten track" category.

Best comfort trip

G-Adventures / National Geographic's Discover Patagonia is a great tour showing you the highlights of Patagonia at a good comfort level.  In the north of the country the same operator has Explore Argentina & Brazil.

Best luxury trip

In the luxury category, we recommend Butterfield & Robinson's Patagonia Walking.

Best quickie trip

If you only have a week, consider G-Adventures / National Geographic's Explore Argentina & Brazil or any of the Patagonia cruises on Mare Australis or Via Australis.

Best off-the-beaten track trip

World Expeditions has a jewel in their Great Patagonian Traverse, where you hike the spine of the Andes north to south.  If you do not want to be active, choose any of the Patagonia cruises on Mare Australis or Via Australis.
