  • Who are Adventure Coordinators?
Adventure Coordinators is a full-service travel agency specializing in adventure travel. Adventure travel to us means anything except large ocean cruises and all-inclusives. Most of our travellers choose to travel either on small-group adventure tours, privately guided tours created just for them, on small-ship cruises or on self-guided hiking and cycling tours. We do not run the tours ourselves - we leave that to the experts - but we can advise you on the tours and trips best suited to you. And then we book these for you with the tour companies.
  • Who operates your tours
Over the past 25 years I have built up a great network of trusted suppliers. I work with a select group of great adventure tour operators - companies that have an established reputation and that I know and trust. For my small-group departures I look at each operator’s trips in depth, compare them to similar trips by other operators, and will present you with those that I believe offer you the best experience. The trips listed on this website are all the best of the best, but due to time constraints I am not able to list all of them. Please ask if you do not see a trip you are interested in. For my tailored-for-you trips (I call them private journeys) I have selected the best destination management companies in the world with long track records and great reputations. I work closely with you and them to design and book your next dream vacation. Read more about our travel styles
  • How large are your groups
Small group tours typically have a maximum of 12-16 passengers - small enough to get to know everyone and to not have a major impact on the places we visit. On private and self-guided tours you decide who you invite to come along and the maximum group size is normally defined by the size of the vehicles and accommodations we use.. On small-ship cruises I prefer to book you on small ships, typically with a maximum of 200 passengers.
  • Who travels with you
Adventure Coordinators' travellers are adventurous people who want to explore our beautiful world, who are curious about wildlife and nature, other cultures, food and people. Whether you want to be active or prefer to travel more leisurely; whether you want to stay in family-run hotels or luxury lodgings; and whether you want to travel in a small group with likeminded travellers or travel with your own family, friends or partner; if you have a love of adventure travel, we should talk. About half of our guests travel solo while the other half travels as couples or as small groups of friends. The ratio or women to men is about 50/50 with a slight bias towards solo travelling women. As age is not an indicator of one's spirit of adventure we find people of all ages join our tours. Many travellers are between 35 and 75 years of age.
  • What is the typical age range of travellers
Most of our travellers are adults. On small-group trips the minimum age is 18 (with some exceptions) and there is no maximum age. Many travellers are between 35 and 75 years of age. If it is important to you to be travelling with people your own age, I can give you tailored advice. I do offer trips for younger adults (20's and 30"s) and I do offer trips for families with children as well.
  • I travel solo - do I have to pay a single supplement
On the overwhelming majority of trips you can choose to share with someone else of the same gender. If you prefer to have your own room, you can opt to pay a single supplement.
  • Can I have my own room?
Tour prices are based on you sharing with someone else of the same gender. If you prefer to have your own room, you can opt to pay a single supplement.
  • Do I need to be fit to join your tours
We like our travellers to bring their sense of adventure but the required fitness level varies from tour to tour. On our active tours you will be hiking or cycling and depending on what tour you choose this may take only a few hours or you may be active all day. On our discovery tours you will often be looking around cities and sites. Use our tour finder to find tours by physical rating.
  • Do you take children on your tours
Families with children can book a private tours or join a special family departure. Please contact us for specifics.
  • I have dietary requirements - will they be catered for?
Most destinations can cater to all types of requirements but in some more remote places this can be harder. When you book a trip with me you can let me know what your requirements are and I will pass these along to the tour company. I do suggest travellers connect with the tour leader on day 1 about their diet and to bring a card with their requirements in the local language for those meals you plan to have on your own.
  • What is included with your tours
A typical tour will include accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, some meals and the services of a tour leader. Inclusions are listed in the detailed trip notes which are available on request.

While there is always an inherent risk to travelling, my partners run their tours with your safety as a top priority. They have offices in destination who will monitor local events. They are designed to get under the skin of your destination and give you unique insights into the local culture without having to rough it. You can find more information here.
  • How much free time do I get on a tour?
It depends on the tour. Some tours have only the main sightseeing included and offer plenty of free time for your own discoveries. Other tours have a lot more gudiing included. Contact me for specifics.
  • Why should I not book directly with the tour company?
Tour companies excel in what they do - run great quality tours. Booking tours with them is quite a different matter. Sure, you can book it straight through their website, but you'd miss out on essential information about travel documentation, flights, how to get to the start and end of the tour etc. And by selecting one particular tour company you may miss out on great trips run by other tour companies. What's more, by picking a particular trip from an operator, how do you know the style of tour is suited for you? Also, if you have any questions, be prepared for long hold times by phone and deal with a call centre where you speak to a different agent each time. Chat with them and the situation is not much better. Email them and you might wait for days or even weeks to get a reply, if it comes at all. With a few notable exceptions you'll often deal people with far less experience than me. "Advice" is often slanted to closing a sale rather than with your best interest in mind. Finally, should a dispute arise you have to fend for yourself. There is a better way - read the next FAQ on why you should book with Adventure Coordinators.
