No one can return from the Serengeti unchanged

George Schaller

Tanzania

Home to the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth - the annual wildebeest migration - Tanzania will impress you like no other place.  Take a safari through the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater.  Hike your heart out on Mount Kilimanjaro.  Get off the beaten track in Ruaha and Selous.  End your trip with some fabulous food and stunning beaches on the legendary island of Zanzibar.

When to go

The best time for a wildlife viewing safari in Tanzania is one of the dry seasons, between June and October as well as January and February.  The famous wildebeest herds move around the Serengeti between November and August.  Mount Kilimanjaro is best climbed either between July and October or January to March.

Must-See Places

Signature Experiences

Serengeti

Grasslands as far as the eye can see, predators galore and home to that dazzling spectacle of the wildebeest migration.  A must see for any visitor to Tanzania.

Ngorongoro Crater

From the moment you descend into this virtual Noah's Ark of Africa, the caldera of the Ngorongoro and its myriad wildlife will keep you spellbound.

Lake Manyara

Tree-climbing lions and millions of flamingos are the stars of this small but rewarding park which supports one of the highest densities of mammals in the world.

Tarangire

In the dry season (June through October), large herds of elephants, wildebeest, zebra and other herbivores dot the ever-changing landscape.  In addition there are epic stands of baobab trees.

Kilimanjaro

Africa's highest mountain is yours for the climbing.  Hike through rain forest, alpine meadows and high-altitude deserts to the peak and see why this is called the Roof of Africa.

Zanzibar

Get lost in the magical jumble of cobbled alleyways of Stone Town, delight your senses on a tour of the spice plantations or relax on the stunning white-sand, palm-fringed beaches of the Indian Ocean.

Selous

Africa's largest wildlife reserve is remote and sees few visitors.  Yet wildlife viewing is unparalleled, both from the water, from a vehicle as well as on foot.  It is the place to come for a true "Out of Africa" experience.
