After a night in Anchorage, fly to Nome and embark your expedition cruise vessel. Cross Bering Strait to Provideniya in Russia's Chukotka. Chukchi villagers delight us with traditional dance and food as we sail up the coast to Cape Dezhnev, Eurasia’s easternmost point. On day 6 we expect to start our explorations of Wrangel and Herald Islands searching for polar bears, ringed seals, walrus, reindeer, musk oxen and arctic fox on pack ice and slopes covered in wildflowers.
Working our way eastwards around the Siberian coast, we plan to land at the bird cliffs on Kolyuchin Island, photographing puffins, guillemots and gulls on their nests. Continuing our expedition to the Arakamchechen archipelago we hope to encounter feeding humpback, grey and bowhead whales.
We visit the Chukchi whaling camp at Ytytygran Island where monumental Whale Bone Alley speaks of past hunting activities.
Checking out of Russia at Provideniya we once again cross the Bering Sea, hoping to spot beluga and grey whales en-route to King Island and its abandoned village of Ukivok. We disembark in Nome and return by air to Anchorage.
