Discover some of the world last discovered and least visited archipelagos, Novaya Zemlya, Franz Josef Land and Severnaya Zemlya. High up in Russia's Arctic, these islands are the last frontier for expedition cruises and you will be one of the few people to have set foot on these islands. Breathtaking glaciers, the drama of early polar exploration and the search for the Northeast Passage to Cathay, a pristine wilderness and of course incredible wildlife: whale, seal, muskox, walrus and polar bear.

Adventure Coordinators Insider Tip:

Willem Barentsz was a Dutch Arctic explorer who went on three expeditions in search for a Northeast passage. He reached as far as Novaya Zemlya and the Kara Sea and discovered Spitsbergen and Bear Island.  On his third journey Barentsz and his 15-man crew became stranded on Novaya Zemlya for almost a year. Barentsz died on the return voyage in 1597.

The Three Voyages of William Barents to the Arctic Regions, by Charles T. Beke can be bought in a Kindle Edition.  It is a great read on this voyage.
