This East African safari journey through Kenya and Tanzania focuses on some of the region’s most celebrated wildlife areas while maintaining a pace that allows time to appreciate the changing landscapes and ecosystems along the way. Beginning in Kenya, the itinerary typically includes time in wildlife-rich reserves such as Ol Pejeta, Lake Nakuru and the Maasai Mara, where open savannah, acacia woodland, and seasonal rivers support large populations of plains game and predators. Game drives are structured around the best wildlife viewing hours, with opportunities to observe elephants, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, and extensive birdlife in their natural environment.
Crossing into Tanzania, the experience continues through landscapes closely associated with the East African safari tradition, including expansive plains and volcanic highlands. Areas such as the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater provide contrasting settings, from wide open grasslands shaped by migration routes to enclosed caldera ecosystems with dense concentrations of wildlife. The scenery itself becomes an important part of the journey, with shifting light, distant escarpments, and changing vegetation creating a strong sense of place.
Accommodation throughout the safari generally combines comfort with proximity to nature, ranging from permanent lodges to tented camps that keep travellers close to the sounds and rhythms of the bush. Overall, the itinerary offers a balanced introduction to East Africa’s wildlife, landscapes, and safari culture through a well-established overland route.
