Explore Norway’s western fjords on an eight-day small-group journey combining coastal scenery, historic towns, local food and comfortable accommodation. Starting in Bergen and finishing in Trondheim, the itinerary follows the coast through fishing villages, Art Nouveau architecture, mountain passes and some of Norway’s most celebrated landscapes.
In Kalvåg, stay for two nights at Knutholmen, a collection of traditional sea houses overlooking the harbour. A local family introduces you to the village’s fishing heritage, including traditional rope-making, restored wooden boats and local herring. A boat excursion to Værøya Island offers a closer look at coastal life, with opportunities to try fishing and set crab pots before enjoying a seafood lunch.
Further south, discover Ålesund’s distinctive Art Nouveau buildings before cruising through UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord, known for its steep mountain walls and waterfalls. The journey continues over the Trollstigen mountain pass, with stops at Dalsnibba and Flydalsjuvet for views across the fjord and surrounding peaks.
In Åndalsnes, ride the Golden Train through the Romsdalen Valley, passing waterfalls, rivers and the towering Troll Wall. A gondola ride and lunch overlooking Romsdalsfjord add another perspective on the landscape. The final days in Trondheim explore regional food traditions, a local farm, and the ruins of King Sverre’s medieval castle. This trip suits travellers who appreciate scenery, history and regional cuisine without a demanding physical itinerary.

Adventure Coordinators Insider Tip:

When visiting Geirangerfjord, pay attention to the weather forecast for the high viewpoints, particularly Dalsnibba. At around 1,500 metres above sea level, conditions can be much colder and change more quickly than down by the fjord. Even on a mild summer day, pack a windproof layer and something warm.
