Oman’s stark beauty reveals itself slowly, and this journey delves deep into its desert heart and mountainous soul. The adventure begins in Muscat, where modern life weaves through centuries of history—grand mosques, lively souqs and seafront palaces set the tone for what’s to come. From there, 4x4s take us through the rugged Hajar Mountains to ancient villages, hot springs and mud-brick homes tucked into the slopes. We explore Jabrin Castle and walk along the edge of Wadi Nakhr, often called the Grand Canyon of the Middle East, before continuing to Nizwa, a city rich in cultural heritage.
As we gain altitude in Jebel Akhdar, the cooler air and terraced farms provide a striking contrast to the shifting sands that await. The Wahiba Sands offer a chance to learn from Bedouin hosts and camp under starry skies, while a desert crossing brings us to remote coastal villages and pink lagoons where flamingos gather. Nights spent wild camping—in Khaluf, Shuwaymiyah, and the Empty Quarter—offer unmatched immersion in Oman’s vast, untamed spaces.
The journey ends in Salalah, after visiting the ruins of ancient Ubar and tracing the fabled frankincense routes that once linked Arabia with the wider world.
