Rwanda’s rolling hills, volcanic highlands, rainforest and lakes provide the backdrop for this 11-day guided cycling adventure. Starting and ending in Kigali, the journey combines road and gravel cycling with opportunities to learn about the country’s history, local crafts, coffee production and wildlife. The route includes part of the UCI Road World Championships course, which made history in 2025 as the first edition held in Africa, as well as sections of the scenic Congo Nile Trail overlooking Lake Kivu.
In Kigali, visit the Genocide Memorial Centre to learn about the 1994 genocide and Rwanda’s ongoing work in remembrance and education. Further south, meet artisans at the Azizi Life collective and discover the former royal capital of Nyanza, where the King’s Palace offers insight into Rwanda’s royal traditions. At Nyungwe National Park, explore one of Africa’s oldest montane rainforests, with an optional canopy walk above the forest floor.
A visit to a coffee plantation introduces the process from harvesting to brewing, while the Bashana Companies and Imigongo Art Centre showcases a distinctive Rwandan art tradition. Near the end of the trip, cycle towards Akagera National Park, take a boat trip on Lake Ihema and join a safari in search of wildlife including elephants, giraffes, zebras and, potentially, lions and rhinos. Optional gorilla or golden monkey trekking offers an additional experience in the volcanic north.

Adventure Coordinators Insider Tip:

When you purchase local handicrafts, rather than treating it simply as a souvenir, ask the artisans about the meaning of his or her artwork. Consider choosing work directly from the artisans or their cooperative, where you can learn more about its production.
