Adventure Coordinators and the Peninsula Bruce Trail Club recently hosted a fantastic tree-planting event at the Vanishing Stream property near Colpoy’s Bay on the Bruce Peninsula. Over 60 enthusiastic volunteers joined forces as 450 trees were planted for a greener future

The Vanishing Stream property is quite special — spanning 100 acres, it has been heavily grazed for over a century and features a mix of meadows, wetlands, and forested areas, all with a hidden stream flowing beneath the limestone rocks. In recent years, there have been significant restoration efforts, including planting of native trees, removing invasive Scotch pines, and conducting controlled burns to rejuvenate the meadow. This tree-planting initiative is part of a broader, multi-year restoration project aimed at boosting biodiversity and enhancing the wildlife corridor along the Bruce Trail. The newly planted trees and shrubs will provide essential food and shelter for a variety of birds, animals, and pollinators.
Adventure Coordinators and many of its clients sponsored the purchase of trees used in this event. These trees will play a vital role in combating climate change by capturing carbon, particularly through their roots, with carbon sequestration increasing as they grow. Not only will these trees diminish traveller's carbon footprints and help mitigate climate change, it will also provide important habitat for wildlife and enhance Niagara Escarpment biodiversity.

This is the second tree planting Adventure Coordinators and its clients have been part of. I am incredibly grateful to all the travellers who donated funds, and to the volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to make these tree-planting events such a success. I look forward to participating in future restoration projects to help preserve and enhance the natural beauty of the Niagara Escarpment, and to mitigate the impact our travels has on our climate.
